You brought up a point in your PATC article that I have brought up on here a few times.

The "interrogation" polygraph vs. the "diagnostic" polygraph.

It seems you really think little of the interrogation polygraph--mentioning that we could use a fake box with lights etc. In this state (Jersey) it seems that's what we are doing.

I was called in for every big case for a polygraph and huge pressure for a confession. Then, when I gave a written letter of rules about that(waiting to reschedule, don't call me after interrogations, use the polygraph for more of a diagnostic purpose)I don't get 1/10 of the calls fo tests.

I guess my purpose of the rant (you other guys heard it before especially Barry) is to say that if an "interrogation" polygraph is not done unethically I don't see a problem with it.

Great point man. I have always felt far more uneasy doing diagnostic tests than interrogative tests. I may be wrong here, but isn't it safe to assume that test error even in a swimmingly smooth test is FAR more likely than getting a false confession in an "interrogative test" that is thoughtful, not too long, and ethical/thoughtful?

Of course the main difference in the two being that a diagnostic test is a stand alone test, whereas an interrogative test relies upon the original diagnosis--in most cases. I need more coffee for this subject.
